TwitterIn The Works: ULTA Set To Bring Cosmetics, Salon Operation To South Tyler
A second fresh face soon will join the recently opened LifeWay Christian Store in the former home of Goody's department store.
The national ULTA discount beauty retailer will set up shop in a 10,000 square feet of space in the building near the corner of Broadway Avenue and Rieck Road.
"We chose Tyler for one of our newest ULTA locations in order to meet the rising demand for a comprehensive beauty destination in this exciting and growing community," Michelle Deiermann, public relations manager for the Illinois-based company, said in an e-mail. "ULTA is a growth company, so we look for markets that are regional retail hubs with significant population and households in the trade area.
"We also look for good co-tenancy in the shopping centers where our stores our located. Broadway Crossing in Tyler presented a good opportunity."
Deiermann said the store is expected to open by year's end, but no exact date had been set as of last week.
ULTA was founded in 1990 at a time when department stores and drug stores dominated the makeup and hair-product markets, according to the ULTA Web site. In December 1999, the company began the transformation leading to what it is today.
ULTA calls itself "the largest beauty retailer that provides one-stop shopping for prestige, mass and salon products and salon services in the United States."
Deiermann said ULTA has 338 locations across 38 states, with 44 Texas stores. The stores are company-owned, not franchised, she said.
Tyler's ULTA will create 40 jobs: five full-time managers, 25 retail positions and 10 salon positions, including stylists and skin therapists, she said.

"ULTA's Tyler location, like many of our newest stores, will feature a boutique highlighting Benefit Cosmetics, a brand introduced at ULTA this year," Deiermann said. "Customers can visit the Tyler ULTA location and experience Benefit's signature brow wax.
"At ULTA, customers can expect to find an unparalleled selection of brand-name cosmetics, fragrances, skin and hair care products, along with a full-service, in-store salon ULTA offers a unique combination of over 21,000 prestige and mass beauty products across the categories of cosmetics, fragrance, hair care, skincare, bath and body products and salon styling tools."
The ULTA will open alongside the relocated LifeWay Christian Store, which moved south from its former home at 3500 S. Broadway Ave. in the Olde English Village, where it opened more than a decade ago, according to Tyler Courier-Times--Telegraph archives.
The new location provides more space and a new color scheme, among other things new to the store, LifeWay officials have said.
The Southern Baptist Convention established LifeWay Christian Resources in Nashville in 1891, according to the company Web site. It has 153 stores nationwide.
The company counts itself among the world's largest providers of Christian products and services. That includes Bibles, church literature, books, music and audio and video recordings.
The company has 26 Texas stores, including one in Longview. It also has two of the nation's largest Christian conference centers.
LifeWay and ULTA will inhabit what was once the Goody's Family Clothing store, which closed earlier this year after being open for about a decade.
Four months after the nationwide retailer shed Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, Goody's officials in January announced that they would liquidate stores nationwide. The stores were shuttered within three months.
